Commercial solar in Ware: roofs, meters and daytime demand

Build a business solar brief around occupancy, ownership and measured consumption rather than roof area alone.

Start with the meter data and operating hours

A business that uses electricity during daylight may be able to consume a useful share of rooftop generation directly. Request an assessment using interval data where available, including weekends, shutdowns and seasonal changes. A large roof is an opportunity to investigate, not proof that filling it gives the best return.

For a Ware office, workshop or converted commercial building, identify which meter serves the occupied space. A landlord’s roof and a tenant’s electricity account can create separate ownership and billing questions. Agree the intended beneficiary before comparing system sizes.

Resolve roof rights and the remaining lease term

Confirm who can authorise the installation and whether lender, insurer or landlord consent is required. Discuss what happens when the tenant leaves, the lease ends or the roof needs repairs. These arrangements should be written into the project, rather than inferred from access to the building.

For rural premises around Wareside or Thundridge, a suitable outbuilding may be physically separate from the main supply. Ask for cable routes, trenching, access and any reinforcement work to be priced. The distance between the array and the meter can materially change the scope.

Survey structure, materials and safe access

Ask for a structural assessment and an appropriate review of roof materials and condition before work is planned. Any suspected hazardous material requires qualified handling. Panels should not conceal a roof-replacement problem that is already foreseeable.

Agree safe installation access, business disruption and maintenance routes. If a roof is shared with other plant, the layout must accommodate ongoing access. Check planning and heritage requirements for the actual premises; domestic assumptions should not simply be applied to a commercial building.

Model consumption, export and finance separately

A commercial proposal should show the expected generation used onsite and exported, with its tariff assumptions. Battery storage is a separate investment to evaluate against the site’s demand profile. Weekend surplus and overnight loads may point to different system choices.

Compare purchase and any financing offer using their complete costs and responsibilities. Ask who owns the equipment, handles faults and receives export income. Ware Solar does not provide finance advice or guarantee a return; your advisers and selected installer should assess the commercial terms.

Prepare a useful installation brief

Include the premises address, roof drawings if available, annual and interval consumption, operating hours and ownership or lease details. Flag future EV charging, electrification or expansion so the network and electrical design can consider them.

A partner installer can arrange a booking within 24 hours of receiving an enquiry, with the assessment date agreed directly. The installer provides the final survey, quotation and contract. Enquiries are welcome from businesses beyond Ware as well as our featured local areas.
