Solar panels and EV charging in Ware: match the timing

A solar-aware charger can adjust charging around available surplus, subject to its operating limits and the installed equipment. Ask how it measures imports and exports and what happens when cloud cover reduces generation.

Check whether a selected mode uses only surplus or supplements it with grid electricity. A solar label does not guarantee that every charge is supplied by the roof. The installer should demonstrate the modes and explain any minimum charging power.

If the vehicle is mostly charged overnight, a suitable electricity tariff may matter more than a daytime solar mode. Compare the whole household tariff and its conditions, including any export arrangement, rather than one cheap charging window in isolation.

Adding a home battery solely to transfer solar into a car introduces cost and energy losses. Request a separate assessment of that option. A vehicle battery is often a substantial load, so do not assume a small home battery will provide a complete charge.

The installer should assess the incoming supply, consumer unit, cable route and load management. Existing solar, storage or a future heat pump should be included in the brief. Ask who handles any network notification or application.
